Riu Hotels began in 1953 as a small family business and has expanded to an international chain with over 100 properties.

Juan Riu began with the beachfront Riu San Francisco. Since then, the company has been run by the third generation, Carmen Riu Güell and Luis Riu Güell, who share the post of chief executive.

With locations in the U.S., Canary Islands, Dominican Republic, the Caribbean, Cuba, Mexico and Jamaica, Riu Hotels and their German partner TUI (Touristik Union International), act as the largest tour operator in Europe.
